The duty/mission of the Memorial Squad, is to provide a military ceremonial burial service for the family of an honorably discharged veteran.

On Saturday, September 21st, we gathered at Channahon State Park to pay tribute to our fallen heroes at the Forgotten Warrior Memorial.
The air was filled with reverence as:

- Wreaths were solemnly placed at the memorial
- Honor Guard stood tall in respect
- The National Anthem echoed across the park
- A heartfelt Veterans Prayer was offered
- Bagpipes played, followed by the poignant notes of Taps

Proud members of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Squad performed a moving flag folding ceremony, explaining the profound meaning behind each of the 13 folds.

Guest speakers reminded us of the sacrifices made by our brave servicemen and women.

The day concluded with a free barbecue luncheon, bringing our community together in remembrance and gratitude.

To those who attended: thank you for helping us ensure that no warrior is ever truly forgotten.

Members of the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Squad were honored to attend the 11th Annual Operation FIRM Handshake in Coal City this past Saturday, September 7th. This incredible event, Illinois' largest free veterans picnic, brought together veterans, active duty service members, and their families for a day of appreciation and community.

Held at The Coal City Area Club, the celebration featured a mouthwatering pig roast as the main course. It was heartwarming to see so many of our brave servicemen and women, past and present, enjoying this well-deserved day with their loved ones.

To all who served and continue to serve: your sacrifice and dedication do not go unnoticed. Events like these remind us of the importance of supporting and honoring our veterans every day.

In the scorching heat of the past two days, with the heat index soaring over 100°F, our dedicated volunteers from the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Squad stood strong. Tuesday's Red and Green Squads, along with our bugler Ed Crobie, braved the sweltering conditions to render Military Honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

These brave men and women found moments of respite under the cemetery's trees, but never wavered in their commitment to honor our fallen veterans. Their volunteer spirit shines bright, even on the hottest days.

This past weekend the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Squad participated in the 1st Annual Four Chaplains Memorial Ceremony hosted by Sons of The American Legion Squadron 1288 in Bolingbrook. It was an honor to join with 15 of our members to remember the courageous sacrifice of the Four Chaplains aboard the USAT Dorchester in 1943. Their interfaith solidarity and selflessness in the face of danger continues to inspire us today.

The Abraham Lincoln Memorial Squad needs you! This all-volunteer group is on a mission to provide dignified military honors for all veterans at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

In 2023, rain or shine, 4 squads presented final honors for veterans 4 days a week. Let's make 2024 the year we expand our mission.

Will you answer the call and volunteer your time in the new year? Together, we can grow the number of days we commemorate our heroes.

Veterans and non-Veterans alike - your service preserves this important tradition of respect and gratitude. Spread the word and get others involved too.
